A strain is a named variety of cannabis. Strains differ in appearance, aroma, and effect.
Every strain has genetics. That means a lineage and a breeder. Lineage tells you what it was crossed from.
Serious growers track lineage like a family tree. It is how you know what you are really growing.
These words started as plant labels. They described how the plant grows, not how it feels.
Indica and sativa plants look different. Ruderalis is the small hardy type that flowers on its own, no light flip needed.
Modern plant science leans on cultivar and chemovar instead. Those words describe the actual plant and its chemistry.
THC percent on flower is the share of THC by weight. On edibles it is listed in milligrams instead.
The number does not tell you the aroma, the flavor, or the quality of the grow.
A higher percent does not always mean a stronger experience. The plant is more than one number.
Terpenes are the aromatic compounds in cannabis. They give each strain its smell and character.
Labels that list terpenes tell you more about a strain than THC percent alone.
